I do not drive, so I walk to work every day. I do all the scheduling for the Hard Surface division. I also keep track of the area rug repairs and sometimes get to help out when customers bring in their area rugs. Over the years I have done a little bit of everything here at Appleby’s.
One of the fun things about working at Appleby’s is getting to see the area rugs that come into our plant for cleaning. I get to see rugs made from around the world, some of them over 100 years old. It’s interesting to see how the antique rugs look when they come in and to see them after we have cleaned them. Sometimes they look so dark because they haven’t been cleaned in a long time and after they are cleaned they really brighten up. I didn’t know anything about area rugs before I worked here. I have learned so much about area rugs since I have been working at Appleby’s. Now I have two area rugs of my own and get them cleaned here at the shop. My area rugs always come out beautiful. My favorite color is purple, so I always want to take home all the purple area rugs that come in.
